Abstract:

Abdul Halim Sharar [1860=1926] is recognized as a seminal figure in the genesis of historical novel writing in Urdu language. "Firdous Bareen,"[Exalted Paradise] first published in 1899 is fictional story woven against backdrop of the Assassins. In this novel he adroitly integrated elements of the supernatural into the narrative fabric. This article is an attempt to analyze the novel through Magical Realism. Results of the study suggests that this supernatural infusion, while intriguing, occasionally overshadows the core thematic import of the novel. In "Firdous Bareen" Shrar adept orchestration of narrative elements, effectively transmuting events within his novels into a realm of enchanting verisimilitude. This artistry is notably characterized by its nuanced and judicious perspective.

The impact of independence and partition of Subcontinent India (1947) is profound on canon of contemporary texts. Autobiography of renowned Urdu writer, journalist, intellectual and film director Ahmad Bashir [1923-2004] “Dil Bhatkay Ga” [The heart has to stray] stands out as an important document in this context. The personal narrative and analysis of incidents related to partition in his work confirms many other narratives on the subject, while refute some of them. Ahmad Bashir captures the mental agony faced by people as establishing a new and independent country requiring migration, and this resulted in experiencing brutal violence and bloodshed. The text records savage silence of the elites and its impacts on personal and social psychology. This article study and analyzes the depiction of migration and riots portrayed in the autobiography of Ahmad Bashir. Additionally, an attempt is made to analyze stylistic peculiarities related to portrayal of migration during the partition.

The partition of the Indian subcontinent served as a poignant source for thematic material, with "Parmesher Singh" exemplifying this. In "Parmesher Singh," the narrative revolves around Parmesher Singh and his family, migrants forced by the partition, coping with the profound loss of their son. Amidst the violence against Muslim migrants, Parmesher encounters Akhtar, a boy of his son's age. A poignant bond forms between them, with Parmesher treating Akhtar as a surrogate for his lost child. Attempting to reshape Akhtar's religious identity, Parmesher imparts love and care, but Akhtar remains devoted to his roots. The article explores the psychological intricacies of migrants, parents dealing with the loss of their children, and children navigating the absence of their parents through a detailed analysis of "Parmesher Singh." Embedded in the context of the partition, the article illuminates the psychological complexities, human attitudes, motivations, internal and external conflicts, character duality, chaos, and collective social psychology within Qasmi's evocative storytelling.

Psychology is a vast and fascinating science. It is a branch of philosophy. The best writer is one who is familiar with psychology of the characters they have crafted. Psychology is a science that studies the behavior of an individual in their environment. The expert in psychology, “Sigmund Freud”, first gave it scientific status through the analysis of psychoanalysis, laying the foundation of modern psychology.

Psychological complexities include pride, superiority, inferiority, sexual suppression, or any abnormal condition; if they cannot find a means of expression, the individual may suffer from various mental disorders. One of the perspectives in psychology is narcissism. Narcissism is a psychological term with its fundamental concept based on self-love and self-worship. Psychologists derived this term from Greek mythology, with Narcissus as the central character.

Praim Chand was the first social realist in Urdu literature. His stories have been studied from various perspectives, but it is important to analyze them from a psychological context. This article discusses the stories "دو بہنیں" (Two Sisters) and " بازیافت" (Recovery)" in the context of narcissism. In these stories, elements of false ego, competition, misperception, self-love, and self-advertisement, among other narcissistic traits, are evident.

Abstract

“Muhammad Bin Qasim” is famous historic novel penned by Nasim Hijazi [1914-1996] to promote pan-Islamist and patriotic sentiments in readers. The novel is being published repeatedly since its first print in 1950, just three years after creation of Pakistan; and fictionalized early Muslim conquest of India. Since Neo-historicism theory provide strong theocratical base to assess literary text especially historic novels, in this article an attempt is made to analyze the MBQ against the theories. The results show that now in global village, the treatment and style of the novel is of interest to very limited group of readers and its scope for a global text is limited. Moreover, newly established theories and material on the subject indicates towards one sided representation of MBQ which are the distorted form of historical events.

Abstract:

In every era, Urdu poetry has accepted thematic, artistics and technical changes. When Urdu poetry began, poets gave unique themes to it. with the passage of time, numerous changes took place in the poem. In the 1960s, when not only Urdu literature but also Pakistani society was being changed, the creators, realizing the contemporary sense, placed new themes in the poem. Among such poets, the name of Nasreen Anjum Bhatti is prominent. she made her name in Punjabi poetry and also published a collection of Urdu poetry. The contemporary quality can be clearly felt in her Urdu poetry. She entitled her work in context of women's freedom and class conflict . So her Urdu poetry cannot be ignored in any way. In the above article, an attempt has been made to examine her forgotten Urdu poetry in the context of sensibility.

Abstract

Magical realism is being used as major tool and technique in fiction explaining postmodern and/or depressed colonial settings. The technique aims to relate socio-political situation through unnatural events and elements as natural. This article is an attempt to explain its context as it is understood and utilized by Urdu literature writers and critics. As this technique mainly involves mixing elements of factual and imaginary world, and authors displays self-proclaimed picture of time, the Urdu context make this richer experience through tradition of mythology and their depiction in literature. The method of this technique includes pluralism, hybridity, authorial reticence and marvelous reality, and this article documents the understanding of Urdu authors and critics of these themes.

Aptitude of distinguishing good and bad embedded in mind of every conscious person, reflects in critic experts' views as well who with biasness free perception, quench their thirst of research by persuading the best literature. Such positive activity determines that 'literature and critics' and 'literature and society' are meticulously interrelated. The critic concept under reference, based on solid grounds, divided in manifold dimension, is also visible in Devender Issr's literary thoughts who evaluates human life based literature through psychologist's point of view and closely observes the literary future by using scientist lenses. Moreover, while playing criticizer's role, he deeply analysis the past and present of Urdu literature, which kept him worried about dusky future of our literary horizon. Devendr Issr's critic, defined by some Western experts, is called alternative or choice based critic i.e. "Eclecticism". In perspective of contemporary disrespect and worthlessness of our Urdu literature, Devendre Issr has always tried his best for the significance of Urdu literature as it was inevitable to liberate it from the Western critic siege because till existence of European literature critic manacles, the shadow of Western colonial literary control was enough to play its negative role to demoralize Urdu literature. In presence of Urdu language own diversified and broad arena, he proposed that for achieving dominance instead of existing inferiority complex, Urdu literature should stop bowing down to Western critic guidance.

Abstract:

Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Siddiqui, born in Akbarabad (Agra) in 1880, got fame in the world of poetry as Seemab Akbarabadi. He was the editor of "Murassaa', published Agra Newspaper and established an institution of literary composition and compilation in the name of Qasr-ul-Adab. The title of 'Nishan Sipas' was conferred on him by the Government of Pakistan for his literary services. Seemab was a disciple of Dagh. Along with ghazal and modern poetry, he also made a name for himself in Naat-goi. His Naat---poetry in praise of Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH, not only encapsulate the beauty of the Prophet's life but also serve as a reflection of the magnificence of the prophethood. Simaab kept in view the blessings and influences of the message of the Holy Prophet who is the mercy to the world (Rahmat Alam). Under the influence of the movement for the betterment of humanity, initiated by the Holy Prophet the great benefactor of humanity , Simaab worked against societal ills through his poetry. His attempt to breathe new life into the broken existence of the Islamic nation is the distinguishing feature of his metrical composition. He has also requested the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for help by describing the national pain and suffering in the language of poetry.

Qamar Ali Abbasi [B:1938]is a famous Urdu author, columnist, dramatist, novelist broadcaster and travelogue writer. His travel writing is read by wider circle of readers due to its accessibility in style and richness in thoughts and analysis. This article is an analysis based on historicism theory of his Italy travel depiction "Aik Baar Chalo Venus" [Lets once visit Venus].

Since historic sense is an awareness that results in bilateral relationship between a human and the incidents around him and is cognitive understanding and recognition of past events, periods, and the significance of history in shaping the present and the future. This article analyzes Abbasi point of view and its impact over treatment of facts and resulting style of writing. The results shows that his through knowledge of history resulted in idiosyncratic vision informed with the Eastern traditions and identifying events and persons with sheer duality of otherness. At same time this identification seems almost in all incidents as antithesis of tolerance, acceptance, and respect for diversity.

Abstract:

Being a review article, the aim of this text is to encompass the trends, themes, insights, and impact of three hundred years of Urdu poem. The article in its first part identifies the socio-political backdrop of colonialism and resulting social change in the Indian Sub-continent. In later part the themes and trends are identified that expression of anxiety, resistance and neglect go hand by hand in almost all eras. Specific poets and their works are cited to establish and identify trends. In last part the current trends of globalization, political resistance and identity crises are illustrated through works being published in last four decades.
