About the Journal
Journal Policy
- An academic editorial board (or equivalent), comprising members with PhD degrees in relevant fields( i.e., area of publication) and a strong research and publications background.
- Editors or editorial team members are not allowed to publish in the JHES.
- The JHES does not publish 1/5 th of the total articles in an issue with affiliations from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan.
- The Journal of Himalayan Earth Sciences is a HEC-recognized journal indexed by Scopus and Web of Science. The Journal of Himalayan Earth Sciences is a bi-annual journal, published in March and November. The Journal follows a double blind review policy for reviewing the research articles.
- It reviews the articles from one local and one international expert in the relevant field. The journal strictly follows the Similarity Index (SI) limit set by the HEC, i.e., <19%.
- The journal charges an amount of 5000/- PKR as a processing fee and 5000/- PKR as a publication fee. The journal demands a plagiarism certificate from the authors's that the manuscript has not been published or under consideration elsewhere.
- Upon acceptance of the manuscript, the journal also demands the authors' contribution, defining the contribution of each author in the manuscript.

AUTHORSHIP POLICY
Criteria for authorship:
- Considerable contributions to the commencement or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
- Final approval of the version to be published.
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
All individuals designated as authors should meet the above-mentioned criteria for authorship. Those who do not meet the above criteria should be acknowledged in the work.
Ethical responsibilities for authors:
- The author must present an accurate and complete account of research performed, absolutely avoiding deception.
- The corresponding author must have the approval of all the authors for each submission and publication of the manuscript.
- Each co-author is responsible for considering his or her role in the project and whether that role merits attribution of authorship.
- Ghost authorships are not permitted, and other contributors should be mentioned in the acknowledgment.
- Industry representatives or others retained by industry who contributed to an article and meet the requirements for authorship or acknowledgement must be appropriately listed as contributors or authors on the article, and their industry affiliation must be disclosed in the published article.
- The materials in any newly submitted paper should be original. If the paper is based on a prior publication, its contents must be substantially different from the previous version. The authors need to indicate how the new paper differs from relevant previous publications.
- Any figure, table, or other material taken from any other paper (preferably published) shall not be used without proper citation in the manuscript.
- The author needs to identify the source of all information quoted or offered, except that which is common knowledge.
- Personal criticism is never acceptable; however, criticism regarding the scientific work of others must be appropriate.
- Potential conflicts of interest, financial or otherwise, must be disclosed to the editor with the submission.
- Authors should fully disclose related financial interests and outside activities in publications (including articles, abstracts, manuscripts submitted for publication), presentations at professional meetings, and funding applications.
- The research mentioned in the manuscript should be conducted according to the commonly accepted ethical standards.
- It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to notify the editor immediately if any statements in the list cease to be true.
Order of Authorship:
The Journal of Himalayan Earth Sciences appreciates that the order of authorship should be in the descending order of contributions; however, several different ways of determining order of authorship exist across different disciplines, research groups, and institutes. The promotion committees, granting agencies, readers, and others who seek to understand how individual authors have contributed to the work should (in the case of the order of authorship of the Journal of Himalayan Earth Sciences) believe that the order is for the contribution of work of the individual authors.
Change in Authorship:
- Addition of the author’s name before the issue is published
- The corresponding author will send a request to the chief editor/associate editor, with clear reasons for the inclusion of the name.
- The corresponding author must submit the agreement to be accountable for the changes in authorship.
- The chief editor/associate editor may ask the corresponding author to submit a No Objection Certificate from all the authors.
- All authors must agree on the inclusion of names if not otherwise than the paper publication will be suspended or will be published without the addition of new names.
- The chief editor, in consultation with the associate editor, will extend a final decision afterwards no further additions can take place.
- Removal of the author’s name before the issue is published
- The corresponding author will send a request to the chief editor/associate editor, with clear reasons for the exclusion of the name.
- The corresponding author must submit the agreement to be accountable for the changes in authorship.
- The corresponding author will also submit a No Objection Certificate from all authors
- All authors must agree on the exclusion of names, if not so then the paper publication will be suspended or will be published without the removal of names.
- Acceptance letter from the author whose name should be omitted must be provided with the request; otherwise request will not be entertained.
- The chief editor, in consultation with the associate editor, will extend a final decision after which no further removal can take place.
- Addition or omission of author name after online publishing
There will be no change in the name and sequence of authors once the journal is published online. No queries in this regard will be entertained.- A claim of an outsider that he/she contributed to the paper, and his/her name was not included in the paper
Corresponding author will be responsible for such claims, and the Journal of Himalayan Earth Sciences editorial board, staff, and the faculty or the administration of the National Centre of Excellence in Geology will not be responsible for such claims.Reviewers Policy
Before accepting the manuscript for review
- Make sure that the manuscript that is asked to review matches the reviewer’s expertise or field of interest.
- A reviewer should only accept the manuscript if he is proficient in reviewing it.
- A reviewer should make sure that he has enough time to review the manuscript.
- Reviewer should inform the Associate Editor if there is any conflict of interest, e.g., if;
- He shares the same department as the authors
- He has worked with in his/previous paper
- He did not provide any sort of help in the current manuscript to the authors
- Does he have any financial or professional connection with the authors
- Reviewers’ communication regarding the manuscript will be limited to the Associate Editor.
- If the reviewer declines the review, He/She may suggest another name for review, but the final decision will be of the Associate Editor.
- Upon accepting an invitation to review the manuscript, the reviewer will be provided 4 weeks to complete their review.
During the review process
- If the reviewer suspects that the manuscript is plagiarized as a whole or partly (i.e., substantial copy of another published work), they should inform the Associate Editor/Chief Editor before reviewing it further, and also cite the previous work that matches the current work in as much detail as possible. However, no available software should be used to check the plagiarism of the manuscript.
- If the reviewer suspects the result is untrue or the methodology used in the manuscript does not match the result, it should be brought to the Associate Editor.
- If the manuscript has any ethical issues and doesn’t match the ethical policy of JHES, it should be brought to the Associate Editor.
- Manuscript should be treated as a confidential document and should not be discussed, nor should the information be shared or disclosed with others.
- A reviewer will not use any data from the manuscript for their personal use.
- If the reviewer needs the opinion of their colleague during review, which may be appropriate in some circumstances, but the reviewer should always let the Associate Editor know in advance, and whoever else is involved will also need to keep the review process confidential.
- The reviewer’s report must be confidential, and the reviewer will only share the report with the Associate Editor.
- The reviewer's identity will be confidential and will not be shared with the authors or any 3rd party without the permission of the Associate Editor and the reviewer.
- Before sending the comments to the Associate Editor, the reviewer must ensure that the file doesn’t contain any data that shows his/her identity.
