Reviewers Policy

Before accepting the manuscript for review:

  1. Make sure that the manuscript that is asked to review matches the reviewer’s expertise or field of interest.
  2. A reviewer should only accept the manuscript if he is proficient in reviewing it.
  3. A reviewer should make sure that he has enough time to review the manuscript.
  4. Reviewer should inform the Associate Editor if there is any conflict of interest, e.g., if;
    1. He shares the same department as the authors
    2. He has worked with in his/previous paper
  • He did not provide any sort of help in the current manuscript to the authors
  1. Does he have any financial or professional connection with the authors
  1. Reviewers’ communication regarding the manuscript will be limited to the Associate Editor.
  2. If the reviewer declines the review, He/She may suggest another name for review, but the final decision will be of the Associate Editor.
  3. Upon accepting an invitation to review the manuscript, the reviewer will be provided 4 weeks to complete their review.

During the review process:

  1. If the reviewer suspects that the manuscript is plagiarized as a whole or partly (i.e., substantial copy of another published work), they should inform the Associate Editor/Chief Editor before reviewing it further, and also cite the previous work that matches the current work in as much detail as possible. However, no available software should be used to check the plagiarism of the manuscript.
  2. If the reviewer suspects the result is untrue or the methodology used in the manuscript does not match the result, it should be brought to the Associate Editor.
  3. If the manuscript has any ethical issues and doesn’t match the ethical policy of JHES, it should be brought to the Associate Editor.
  4. Manuscript should be treated as a confidential document and should not be discussed, nor should the information be shared or disclosed with others.
  5. A reviewer will not use any data from the manuscript for their personal use.
  6. If the reviewer needs the opinion of their colleague during review, which may be appropriate in some circumstances, but the reviewer should always let the Associate Editor know in advance, and whoever else is involved will also need to keep the review process confidential.
  7. The reviewer’s report must be confidential, and the reviewer will only share the report with the Associate Editor.
  8. The reviewer's identity will be confidential and will not be shared with the authors or any 3rd party without the permission of the Associate Editor and the reviewer.
  9. Before sending the comments to the Associate Editor, the reviewer must ensure that the file doesn’t contain any data that shows his/her identity.
