About the Journal

Ancient Pakistan is a peer-reviewed research journal of the Department of Archaeology, University of Peshawar, founded by the late Professor Ahmad Hasan Dani in 1964. The journal provides an international platform for the publication of original research and fresh discoveries made in archaeology, art, architecture, epigraphy, numismatics, ancient history, historical geography, cultural heritage, conservation, heritage management, civilizations, museology, linguistics and ancient religions of Pakistan and neighbouring regions.

Although the primary geographical focus of the journal is Pakistan, articles addressing the archaeology, history and cultural heritage of neighbouring regions, including Afghanistan, India, Iran, Central Asia and the broader Silk Road cultural sphere, are welcomed where they contribute to a better understanding of regional cultural developments and interactions.

The journal is committed to promoting rigorous scholarship, ethical research practices and encourages studies that make a meaningful contribution to the documentation, interpretation, conservation and sustainable management of cultural heritage.

Ancient Pakistan is published annually (one volume per year) through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform maintained by the University of Peshawar.
