Abstract

Saadat Hasan Manto was a witty, bold, sarcastic and outspoken person. He strongly disliked lies and hypocrisy. His famous short story collections include "Atash Pare", "Dhuwad", "Thanda Gosht", "Kali Salwar", "Bo" and "Khali Botlein Khali Deby"etc. His stories deeply reflect poverty, sexual problems, class differences and human psychology. The special feature of Manto's stories is realism, bold style, short but effective style and shocking ending.. Manto's collection of short stories "Khali  Botlyn Khali Deby" is an important milestone in Urdu literature. This collection was written in the post-partition era, when society was in a state of severe chaos, uncertainty and moral decline. The stories included in this collection present a complete picture of the internal and external problems of the individual. Manto, while analysing human nature very meticulously, showed that the simpler and clearer a person appears to be, the more complex and contradictory he is in reality. The title of this collection is itself a symbol. "Khali Botlyn Khali Deby" represents the void that exists within man. This void is not only a void but also intellectual, spiritual and moral. Through this symbol, Manto made it clear that modern man has been cut off from his origin and his life has lost purpose.
