ABSTRACT:
Inayatullah [1920-1999] was a veteran of the Second World War, belonging to family of writers and editors. After retirement from Pakistan Air Force, he edited renowned national magazine ‘Saiyara Digest’, and soon launched his own magazine ‘Hikayat’. In Urdu journalism and popular literature, ‘Hikayat’, and the series published in it,that later separately published as books is considered a landmark of our culture scene of 70s and 80s. He formed new trends in journalism, narrated reality in his writings and the incidents he witnessed himself and never tried to quote fictitious stories for creating suspense and interest for the reader. His articles contained Islamic history, stories of bravery & sacrifices of Pak Army and motivation for young generation for which he utilized the platform of journalism as tool to revive Islamic spirit and guidance in youth. This short article is an effort to outline the evolution of Inayatullah’s personal and intellectual development and contributions to Urdu literature and journalism
