Abstract

ABSTRACT:

Punjab is the land of five rivers as well as five "Bars". Before the advent of canal system, mostly uninhabited area of ​​Punjab was called "Bar" which literally means Forest. The people living in five bars of Punjab had their own distinctive cultural colors. One of these bars, the "Neelibar" is the subject of Dr. Tahira Iqbal's renowned novel "Neeli Bar" published in 2017. This novel deals with Socio political perspective of the said region as well as the diverse colors of the vanishing culture of the region. This article deals with the wedding rituals as an aspect of the Neelibar's culture. From wedding preparations to traditional songs sung at the arrival of the barat, frames of mind of locals and migrants regarding the said occasion, bridal attire and its special preparation including ornaments, departure and arrival of the barat and wedding meals. Here, the complete cultural glimpse of Neelibar marriages ceremonies has been illustrated with examples from Tahira Iqbal's novel.
