ABSTRACT
Anwar Sajjad (b. 1934) famous art critic, drama writer, drama artist and culture figure of south-Asia is one of the pioneer novel writers in Urdu language on themes related to Existentialism. This brief article is an attempt to analyze his famous novel “Khushiyon ka Baagh” (Garden of Delights). It is exposed that, as name suggests, the theme and main idea of the novel is influenced byHieronymus Bosch, and his famous painting “The Garden of Earthly Delights”. However, the plot and story distract very strikingly where Anwar Sajjad presents his peculiar world view and the very rationale of human life informed by Existentialism. At political backdrop the novel claims that poverty and problems of the poor nations are results of policies and plans by few rich nations. Thus, the novel presents a unique blend of existentialism and post-colonialism in its themes and treatment.Downloads
