Abstract

Abu al-Fazl Siddiqi is a distinctive Urdu novelist who, in his novel Tarang, has portrayed the impact of drugs on the human mind and body. In this novel, he presents characters from rural society who use various types of narcotics such as opium, hashish, gutka, tobacco, alcohol, and betel leaf. Due to addiction, their lives fall into ruin. These characters lose their social relationships, wealth, and health. The novel highlights the tragic consequences arising from the harmful effects of drug use, bringing to light the deeper significance of this social issue.
