Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is comprised of lush green valleys with high altitude mountains blanketed with a variety of flora and containing diversity in fauna and four different seasons each with its own colours and fragrance. This area also flourished the famous Gandhara civilization in its lap. However, this region is also assumed a backward and underprivileged area in Pakistan economically. However, privileged class of the region occupy sixty percent of the total resources and land. For this reason, a large proportion of the population of this region is compelled to live poor and substandard lives. Since literature is the reflection of a society, hence, the writers of this region have penned works on this serious issue of economic backwardness in form of fiction. Such dominant writers include; Farigh Bokhari, Fehmeeda Akhter, Mrs. Munawwar Rauf, Sahar Yousafzai, Syeda Hina, and Dr. Akhter Nawaz Khan. These writers have produced a considerable body of literature that contain especially the theme of regional issues of the unprivileged elements of the Pashtoon society. Thus, this work deals with the fictions of these writers dealing with issues of economical backwardness and poverty in special.
