Sociolinguistics deals with the study of language with special reference to the society. Culture and civilization are the indispensable parts of language and society. This article presents the critical analysis of linguistic work of Prof. Dr. Abdussattar Dalvi in the context of sociolinguistics which is an integral part of his writings. Urdu Zaban aur Samaji Sayaq (1992) is his collection of sociolinguistic essays which depicts his interest over linguistics especially phonetics and both has a deep influence of his sociolinguistic approach. He is among those linguists who believe that Urdu and Hindi both languages arouse from Khadi boli which is the dialect of Delhi and its surroundings. Do Zabanain, Do Adab (2007) is his masterpiece book in the twenty first century written in response to Dr. Gyan Chand Jain’s book named Ek Bhasha: Do Likhawat, Do Adab (2005). Dr. Dalvi is of the view that the base of Urdu and Hindi is the same but with the start of nineteenth century, the literature of both the languages evolve simultaneously in different directions, eventually giving birth the two separate literal languages. He also believes that Urdu style of Khadi boli is ancient than Hindi style of Khadi boli. Urdu is the pure representative of combined Indian Culture.
