Abstract

ABSTRACT Prem Chend (1880-1936) a prominent name of Hindi and Urdu fiction is realist and humanist that consistently changed his themes, as they dictated by real world around. This article is analysis and review of those characters of his short stories who choose to suicide. The review reveals that suicidal tendencies as presented by Prem Chend are caused by social economic and psychological reasons. It appears that for Prem Chend, social injustice, economic pressure and low self-esteem force individuals to commit suicide. Thus, for Prem Chend, suicide is not a choice, but it is purely matter of anguish or hopelessness that push a person to this extreme act.
