Abstract:

Being a review article, the aim of this text is to encompass the trends, themes, insights, and impact of three hundred years of Urdu poem. The article in its first part identifies the socio-political backdrop of colonialism and resulting social change in the Indian Sub-continent. In later part the themes and trends are identified that expression of anxiety, resistance and neglect go hand by hand in almost all eras. Specific poets and their works are cited to establish and identify trends. In last part the current trends of globalization, political resistance and identity crises are illustrated through works being published in last four decades.
