This research paper critically explores the portrayal of the individual's inner agony in Mansha Yaad' short story collection “Mass aur Matti". Recognized for his deep psychological insight and socio-cultural engagement, Mansha Yaad intricately crafts characters who grapple with existential dilemmas, emotional isolation, and the burdens of societal expectations. Through a symbolic and realistic narrative style, his stories depict the silent suffering of individuals caught between tradition and modernity, personal desires and collective responsibilities. This study analyses selected short stories from the collection, focusing on how the author employs imagery, metaphor, and internal monologue to expose the fractured inner world of his characters. The paper also examines the thematic resonance of alienation, memory, and identity crisis, situating Mansha Yaad’ work within the broader context of modern Urdu fiction. The research aims to highlight how his fiction serves as both a mirror and a critique of contemporary individual existence, making his work profoundly relevant to the discourse on the psychology of the self in literature.
