Abstract

Hospitality is a salient value of Pakistani society. This short article is an effort to analyze the observations and reactions of Pakistani authors in their Urdu travelogues about host countries. The article consists of ten travelogues about more than twenty countries of Europe, Asia and Australia. Analysis shows that, for Pakistani authors, the level of decorum and protocol of a guest in host societies are surprising and disappointing with one noted exception of Italian society. In each instance, the rationale presented by the travel writers is also included in the article, which collectively shows that difference of level in hospitality is well understood by authors in backdrop of values and traditions of host societies.
