Abstract

Zaka-ur-Rahman (1942-2016) belonged to Bahawalnagar district of South Punjab. He started writing fiction during his stay at Lahore. He is a very reliable reference in modern and new Urdu short story, but surprisingly he has not been cited very much. Zaka-ur-Rahman is among those short story writers of Urdu who made unique experiments at the level of style. His early short stories reflect the indigenous life of South Punjab and particularly Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar, while later he also experimented with abstract short story and gave those a new creative style by studying religion, history, Indian mythology and philosophy. . In this paper, the thematic and stylistic study of Zakaur Rahman's short stories is presented in the light of primary and secondary sources.
